1. Should the bean throw an IllegalArgumentException when the user enters an invalid character or when an argument supplied to a method is not valid?

The bean currently does not throw any exceptions:
  • a beep (which can be silenced) is sounded when an invalid character is entered. The character is ignored.
  • multiple character entry errors (such as 4-5,,) are caught when the enter key is pressed or focus is lost. The last valid value is then restored.
  • all setter method errors are ignored.

 

 

2. Would a Swing version of the bean be useful to you?

The current bean extends AWT TextField and uses only JDK 1.1 classes so that it can be used in most Version 4 and higher browsers.

 

 

3. Should text to be selected automatically when the field gains focus (enabled or disabled by a property)?

Don't Care
To replace all the text in the current bean, you must manually select it first.
